Star Wars light sabers with pool noodles

One of my best friends had a Star Wars themed birthday party this summer and made these great light sabers from pool noodles.   I found some very easy to follow instructions on www.spoon.com.  All you need is pool noodles, silver duct tape and black electrical tape.

pool noodle light sabers

Here’s what you do

1. Cut the noodles in half, using a sharp knife.

2. Wrap the bottom quarter in the silver duct tape.

3. Wrap 3 pieces (rings) of black electrical tape around the top of the silver duct tape.

4. Stick 2 pieces of black electrical tape under the 3 black rings.

That’s it – you can use any color pool noodle and everyone will have fun.  Quick, easy and not expensive to do.

paying it forward with shoe repairs

This is how Susan Savage from Waco, Texas pays it forward …. Thanks for sharing Susan

BeFunky_shoes.jpg

Friday while at the shoe repair shop a young women came in around closing time. My shoe repair guy is really funny. He told her he could not repair her shoes and then threw them in the trash. She was shocked and said that those were her very favorite shoes. He admitted to the fact that he was just kidding with her. We then proceeded to chit chat and joke. After she left, I paid for my repair and proceeded to pay for hers as well. It wasn’t much and I’m sure she could afford paying for this herself. But it made me feel so good and it was fun thinking about what her reaction would be. And, I’m guessing, she is the type to Pay it Forward the first chance she gets. It is really rewarding no matter how small. And contagious. TRY IT!!!!!!

quick & easy christmas treats for neighbors

Every year we make home made goodies for Christmas that we share with neighbors, friends and colleagues.  This year I wanted something festive, fun and easy enough that the kids could help.  For us, it is so important that the kids be involved – even if the final product doesn’t look that great!!

I found this great easy snack online (www.cookingclassy.com) that looks festive and takes 10 minutes to make.  Have fun with it!!

Pretzel M&M Hugs {Christmas Style}
Yield: 70

Pretzel M&M Hugs {Christmas Style}

Ingredients

  • 70 square pretzels (do NOT use butter snaps)
  • 70 Hershey’s Hugs chocolates (from nearly 1 full 12 oz package), unwrapped
  • 70 Milk Chocolate M&M’s, I used the red and green Christmas package

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 200 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with a Silpat or parchment paper. Align pretzels on cookie sheet in a single layer then top each pretzel with one Hershey’s Hug chocolate. Bake in preheated oven for 4 – 5 minutes, until the chocolate is shiny and soft (but NOT melting, the chocolates should still hold their shape).
  • Remove from oven and carefully place one M&M in the center of each soft Hug and press down on M&M to spread the chocolate. Place in refrigerator and allow to rest until chocolate has set, about 5 minutes. Store in an airtight container.
