next steps in the transition to a stay at home mom

This is my first week as a stay at home mom and it is an interesting transition.  To wake up and not have to first check emails or to be able to go out with the kids and not rush back because of a meeting is great.

I do think that as much as I know this is the best change for me, I still need to keep on some type of a schedule and with some structure.  So, this is my list which I am hoping will help me through this transition.  I will check in with you in a couple of weeks and let you know how it’s going!!

mynextstep.jpg1. Take time to decompress.  Working in a stressful corporate environment takes a lot out of a person.  Instead of jumping into the next activity to keep busy, I am taking time to decompress.

2. Time for myself.  Linked to number one, even though the kids are my first priority I am making sure that I have time put aside for myself each week without the kids.

3. Don’t become a couch potato!  One can get so caught up in a great show on TV and then not wanting to miss the entire series – I need to make sure this does not happen

4. Interact with others.  Making an effort to connect with other stay at home parents and grown ups – hopefully leading to conversations other than only parenting.

5. Staying fit.  I am actually looking forward to being able to walk every morning at a time that suits me.

6. Not overdoing volunteer sign-ups.  Don’t get me wrong volunteering at school events is important but there needs to be some balance or this could consume your life!

7. Don’t make every day yoga pants day.  I don’t have to go into an office or meet anyone but that doesn’t mean it’s an excuse not to blow-dry my hair and get dressed!  Yoga pants every day may be comfortable but lets not make that happen 7 days a week.

8. Get out of the house.  Writing a blog doesn’t have to happen at home.  Some days I plan on going to a coffee shop or sitting in the park while working.

For those of you that are stay at home moms, I would love to hear some ideas from you.  So please share them!
