reasons to have a best friend

We all hear young girls talk about their BFF’s and how quick it is for them to fall in and out of BFF relationships.  I am featuring this as a Tuesday Time for Mom post as having a best friend is part of the time you can give back to yourself.   It is time away from kids, work, partners and our daily chores to just be you!

I don’t think that your best friends have to be people you have known for a long time or went to college with.  As our lives change so do we and we could develop new friends along the way.   I am lucky to have 4 best friends who entered my life over the course of the last 3 years and I am not sure how I would have survived many challenging times without them.  Here are some reasons I think you should have a best friend/s.

1. Support: best friends give you support no matter what you are going through.  They will be a sounding board and will not judge.

2. Honesty: they will let you know exactly what they think even if its not what you want to hear.  This could be your latest hair color looking awful or how you messed up disciplining your child.  The best thing is the advice they give you will always be something that is to your benefit.

3. Laughter: most of the times I am with my best friends we are laughing. This could be at ourselves, our lives, our husbands or just the way of the world.  I always leave them feeling great.

4. Effortless:  with best friends you don’t have to try.  These are the relationships that just are and will be great even when you are having a horrible day – you can be yourself.  Best Friends accept us as we are and will always stay true.

So, I count myself blessed to have great best friends – thank you Lisa, Shannon, Leah and Rebecca.

When you have true best friends you will feel amazing and as the infamous Dr. Seuss says you will know that ” In my world, everyone’s a pony and they all eat rainbows and poop butterflies!”
